This Wednesday, I went to a film with Ms.Mason and the other three students at an Italian restaurant called Patio, and we watched Sorry To Bother You.
The lead character, Cassius, aka cash, have several mindsets at different phases.
First, he just wants to get a good job to provide his girl and mortgage, so he worked very hard, and use the white voice to trick his client.
After being selected to one of the power callers, he became afraid of losing things that he has achieved, so he quit the protesting team and hah a big argument with his brother.
But then he discovers the dirty secrets his boss have been hiding, he has realized how evil the capitalists can be, so he rejoined the protesting team, and fight with the horsemen to destroy this evil plan.
I have to say that I have not seen this kind of film for about 3 years, which reveals the true problem of our society while remaining funny.
In IMDB, it only gets 7 out of 10, which I think is a huge pity, with a flawless storyline and excellent performance, it worth at least 9 points. However the super-realistic scares people away.
Some people would call it strange when seeing someone turning into a horse at the end of the movie, but I think differently, I see it as a strong symbolization of how the capital has done to the less fortunate. The director just wants to melt down the strong conflict between the poor and the rich.
"A paean to the proletariat", I think this is the exact words I want to use to describe the movie. As a Chinese, we are taught that our country is built by the proletariat and built for the proletariat, though over the years, I have never seen a real protest by person, but it's alwayss delight to have somthing in common with characters in the film, people just suck it when they are bullied by the capitalist, which is really ironic.
Sometimes we refuse to see the ugly and make a real difference, we just immerse ourselves in the happy atmosphere, while people talk about care and love, and we forget the real problem here: equality and right.
let's move back to the plot and character, there are two lines that have been mentioned in the beginning and the end, which correspond with two themes of the film.
The first one is "what is the meaning of our life?" and "Are we part of the big purpose?", there are two answers to this question. One is to enter the golden gate and be a power caller and another is just yourself and cherish the people standing in front of you like what Cash and Detroit chose.
The second line is sorry to bother you, I think is very funny but thought-provoking that salesmen are always considered annoying, but when the horseman says the line, I just find it really hilarious, but I can't even describe my feelings, I guess that is the bueaty of filming art.
