The film tells a story of a Pakistani stand-up comedian who falls in love with a native American girl, who happened to get into a big sick, and get over all the difficulties to marry her after all.
It's pretty much about the culture clash and race problem in both Pakistan and American.
It discusses many issues of our society such as the arranged marriage in countries like Pakistan, and family vs religion.
As the director have an attitude of abandoning all the old things, so there are scenes like Kumail claims that he had not prayed for about months and disengage from his family to defend his belief.
I think it is too extreme, even in a film, because the basic set of it is a romcom, the conflict is so obvious that the audience can hardly focus on the main character's love.
So, as a film about a social problem, there is no doubt that "the big sick" is a successful movie, but when it comes to whether it is a good romcom, I hold a negative attitude.
This means it is a successful movie when it comes to arousing people's attention to arranged marriage, but lack of artistic quality.
