Still, at BAMPFA, I watched The Strange Case of Angelica with mt friends.
The Strange Case of Angelica is a french film, which was released in 2010.
It tells a very simple but meaningful story.
A girl named angelica comes back to life after a sudden death, and her spirit lives in the photo taken by a photographer named Marido.
Marido received a strange client ay midnight to take a photo of a dead young woman.
Several days later, he found the girl in the pictures smiling at him.
Marido found that the farmers who used to work at the hill in front of his family had been replaced with machines.
Marido found Angelica's husband to be a beggar.
Marido can't handle the huge change of this era, so he shouted and run non-stop for about 10 miles which lead to his death.
Finally, he united with angelica at paradise.
It is a film with very decent camera placement and soft music as well, which discuss the Modernity and how it ruined our old way of working and living.
The director uses symmetry item to express his sorry for the loss of old peaceful lifestyle.
Angelica's smile corresponding to the farmers with hoes, which represents the beauty of the old times, the disappearance of them not only leads to Marido's death but also reflects the director's sorry for the loss of the old beauty.
The noise of trucks corresponding to big influences that the industrial revolution has brought.
Marido is a symptom that represents all the people who feel sorry for the loss of the old days like the director.
With all there technics, the director successfully writes a great poem to memorize the old days with his camera.
It only gets 6.7 out of 10 at IMDB, which I think it's slightly below what the strange Case of Angelica deserves, maybe the reason behind it is some people are repulsive to film that against the Modernity.
I think it is a very good film, and if it's possible, I would go to BAMPFA again to watch other films.
